This site - still under construction - celebrates the city of Bath, its history, buildings and people. It includes imaginative writings to give a flavour of the past.
You may be wondering why (for example) I have a picture of a gasometer in 1909 on my page about Roman Bath. This is why: I found this picture (see acknowledgements and guilty admissions) and realised I had no idea that gasometers even existed at this time. Bear in mind, this is before cars. Before radio. British Electroplated Nickel Silver (EPNS) was still a big thing. And the post could arrive on the same day it was sent.
So the pictures in Fabled City are the ones which I felt were those most worth sharing - unusual, unexpected, often glossed-over visions of Bath. If you have access to more pictures like these, please get in touch. If I have used an image which belongs to you, please also get in touch - I have tried to acknowledge but I don't know the true sources for some of my images. Thanks.
